Prof. Ir. Kees Christiaanse | Architecture and Urban Design
His team is participating in national and international research programs, working on Swiss National Fund (SNF) sponsored doctorates as well as on external university cooperative projects. The team has a constant exchange with experts from the profession and perform research on urban design and related specialist fields. Special attention is given to combining research, teaching and practice. A variety of methods are applied to find specific answers to questions on the phenomenon of the city.
The central research questions of the Chair remain the challenges of a sustainable urban design. Sustainability is considered a comprehensive concept that is the centre of the research, far beyond technical-ecological indicators and the long-term development capability of the city as a resource.
