disP – The Planning Review ist eine Publikation des Netzwerks Stadt und Landschaft (NSL), die 1965 entstand und seit 2010 als Zeitschrift im Abonnement erscheint. disP – The Planning Review ist eine interdisziplinäre wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift, die sich mit Themen aus den Bereichen Städtebau, Stadt- und Ortsplanung, Landschafts- und Umweltplanung, Landschaftsarchitektur, Regional- und Umweltökonomie sowie Verkehrsplanung beschäftigt. Sie erscheint vierteljährlich; durchschnittlich zwei Ausgaben pro Jahr sind einem speziellen Thema gewidmet (Spezialausgabe). Die Artikel werden in einem anonymen Peer-Review-Verfahren [einem sogenannten double-blind referee process bzw. Doppelblind-Gutachterverfahren] begutachtet und ausgewählt, und die Redaktion wird von einem internationalen Editorial Advisory Board [Redaktionsbeirat] unterstützt.

Internationale Ausrichtung

Die Zeitschrift nimmt Artikel entgegen, die von Autoren aus der ganzen Welt eingereicht werden, die einen Beitrag zum europäischen Planungsforum leisten wollen. Die Artikel werden in Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch und Italienisch veröffentlicht. Jedem Artikel wird, unabhängig von der Originalsprache des Artikels, eine englische Zusammenfassung (Abstract) vorangestellt.

Für wissenschaftliche Forschung und Praxis

disP – The Planning Review richtet sich an Fachleute aus Forschung und Praxis, die sich für europäische Planungsfragen interessieren. Die Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) ist offizieller Partner der Zeitschrift.

Eine deutsche Übersetzung ist in Arbeit und folgt so bald wie möglich.

How to submit your manuscript

Full-length articles, short articles and CityTours (only if intended to be double-blind peer reviewed) should be submitted by using this.

CityTours (if not intended to be double-blind peer reviewed), book reviews, disP Forum manuscripts can be submitted by sending the manuscript to the editorial team. Please contact the editorial team if you have suggestions for future CityTours.

Each submission must contain the following:

• Manuscript with title and subtitles, and crossheadings where necessary. The main title should be either two lines in length (maximum 60–80 characters per line) or a main title of one line and a subtitle of one line (150 characters total).
• Summary in English (abstract). Please submit the abstract along with your manuscript.
• List of relevant literature (references).
• Footnotes, if necessary.
• Graphics/images, provided as separate files and not embedded in main text (see guidelines).

Information on the authors (short biography, contact details)

A short biography (max. 80 words) should be provided for each contributing author: short descriptive text including full name, academic title, current position, current academic institution/company and, for instance, research interests, recent projects and publications etc. Furthermore, full contact details for each author should be provided (postal address, telephone number, email address). Contact details of the author(s), including email address, are published at the end of each article.

Formatting Tips

• Use subheadings and, where necessary, number the headings using roman numerals, e.g. 1, 1.1, 1.1.2 (maximum three levels).
• Do make as few lists as necessary.
• Avoid using bold and cursive in the main text. Individual or special terms should be indicated by using inverted commas (“”).
• Check that hyphens (-) and dashes (–) have been used correctly.
• Footnotes will be printed in the form of endnotes. However, important information for the comprehension of the article should feature in the main text; avoid extensive footnotes and annotations.

References/Bibliography

Citations in the main text must be followed by a short reference, e.g. (Beyeler, Hofmann 1997: 4), which should be listed in its entirety in the Bibliography/Reference section. The reference section is to be organised alphabetically as follows (please note punctuation marks):

Formal Specifications for Images

Illustrations

Illustrations are reproduced solely in black and white (greyscale). Please check that all illustrations or maps that are originally in colour are transformed into greyscale without compromising quality or resolution. For further questions please contact the editorial team in advance.

Digital images

Images and figures in electronic form should be in the highest resolution possible (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for greyscale, 300 dpi for colour) and be provided in one of the following formats: tiff, jpeg, eps or PDF. Images should be saved as individual files and not embedded in the text.

Captions

For each image a short description (caption) should be provided (maximum 150 characters) and listed in a separate Word document. They must be numbered correspondingly.

Layout

Placement of images should be indicated in the main text by means of an insert note. However, due to layout design restrictions, it is possible that the final placement of images may have to be adjusted. The editorial staff and production department reserve the right to remove or decrease the size of images for publication should an article be too long.

Source

The relevant source for each image should be given. The author is required to obtain the necessary permissions to print third-party material, where necessary.

a. Editorial

Editorials are submitted exclusively by the editors of disP – The Planning Review. It is published in English and German (maximum length English version: 750 words; maximum length German version: 600 words).

b. Special Issues

Please contact the editorial team if you have suggestions for future special issues (include proposal (max. two pages) and list of possible authors). Special issue should contain four to seven articles (each article max. 10000 English** words). Guest editors may submit both a guest editorial (maximum length in English*: 750 words) and an introduction to the special issue (length no more than 10000 English** words). Guest editors have to decide for either English, German, French or Italian; it is possible to combine an English guest editorial with an introduction in either English, German, French or Italian.

c. CityTour (either double-blind peer reviewed or non-peer reviewed)

The City Tour feature is essayistic and allows planners from all over the world to take our readers on a virtual tour of their chosen city. This may include highlighting certain aspects of the city, its urban dynamics and planning, its challenges and opportunities, the visible and the hidden. Text length in maximum 6000 words*. Pictures and maps are welcome. The abstract should be no more than 250 words (in English only). For disP CityTours authors may choose for double-blind peer review, else it is single-blind review. Authors can either submit manuscripts or are invited by the editors. Double-blind peer reviewed CityTours will be indicated. CityTours can be both invited or submitted.

d. Peer-reviewed articles

Peer-reviewed articles are either full-length articles (6000−10000 English words*) or short articles (rapidly communicating new high-impact ideas or approaches; maximum 6000 English words**). The abstract should be no more than 250 words (in English only). Figures and tables should be in black & white; for figures in color please contact the editors in advance.

** manuscripts in German: no more than 4800 words, manuscripts in French and Italian: no more than 5700 words (including everything)

e. disP Forum (= Non-peer-reviewed articles)

disP Forum allow authors to contribute viewpoints, commentaries, and perspectives. It encourages constructive discussion about topics that have implications for academics and policy makers. It aims to provide new thinking on a current policy debate or an emerging political challenge. Authors can either submit manuscripts or are invited by the editors. disP Forum contributions will have a quick turnaround and will generally be single-blind reviewed. The final decision to accept disP Forum manuscripts remains with the editors. disP Forum contributions have a maximum word count of 6,000* and may contain figures (b&w) and/or tables.

f. disP AESOP section

Manuscripts for disP AESOP section are submitted exclusively by AESOP Secretariat General.

g. Book Reviews

Reviews of recently new published books and new editions that relate to at least one of the topics of the journal. Book review length is approximately 400 to 750 words. Book reviews may be written in any of the official publication languages: German, French, Italian or English. Please use clear, coherent and concise language and refrain from using lists or footnotes. Please provide the following information relating to the book under review: name of author(s), year of publication, title/subtitle, place of publication and publisher, ISBN number. If possible, please include number of pages and price. In case you are interested in writing a book review, please contact the editorial team in advance. It is also possible to submit book reviews and editors will decide on it.

Textlänge

Wir empfehlen für Buchbesprechungen eine Textlänge von 5’000 bis 8’000 Zeichen (inklusive Leerzeichen).

Titel

Der Titel der Publikation wird automatisch als Titel der Buchbesprechung übernommen.

Angaben zur Veröffentlichung

Bitte fügen Sie folgende Angaben zu dem zu rezensierenden Buch hinzu: Name des Autors/der Autoren, Erscheinungsjahr/ Titel/Untertitel, Erscheinungsort und Verlag sowie ISBN-Nummer. Falls möglich, geben Sie bitte auch die Anzahl Seiten und den Preis an.

Sprache/Stil

Buchbesprechungen können in jeder der offiziellen Publikationssprachen – Deutsch, Französisch, Italienisch, oder Deutsch – verfasst werden. Bitte verwenden Sie eine klare, kohärente und prägnante Sprache und vermeiden Sie Listen und Fussnoten.

Einreichung

Buchbesprechungen können online via Editorial Manager oder per E-Mail als Word-Datei an die folgende Adresse eingereicht werden: disp@ethz.ch. Buchrezensenten erhalten nach Erscheinen ein kostenloses Druckexemplar der jeweiligen Ausgabe.

Druckfahnen/Druckfreigabe

Nach der Annahme zur Veröffentlichung wird Ihr Text zum Korrekturlesen an die Redaktion weitergeleitet. Anschliessend wird die Buchbesprechung fürs Layout an die Produktion geschickt. Der Autor erhält eine Druckfahne im PDF-Format und Gelegenheit zur Rückmeldung und/oder dem Anbringen kleinerer Korrekturen (Feedback-Loop). Korrekturwünsche müssen entweder ins PDF-Dokument eingefügt, oder in einer Word-Datei aufgelistet und innerhalb der angegebenen Frist per E-Mail an die Redaktion geschickt werden. Eine umfassendere Überarbeitung des Textes ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht mehr möglich. Nach erfolgter Überarbeitung wird ein endgültiger Korrekturabzug mitsamt einer Frist für die Druckfreigabe erstellt. Sollte die Druckfreigabe durch den Autor nicht fristgemäss erfolgen, behält sich die Redaktion vor, die Buchbesprechung in der vorliegenden Form ohne endgültige Freigabe zu drucken, oder auf die Veröffentlichung zu verzichten.
